What Started This

In July 2026, a short video clip from a Tyrone Township Board meeting — stirring up outrage over “secret NDAs” and an incoming data center — spread across TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook. Here’s the inconvenient part: there is no data center. There was never even an application — and a moratorium is already in place. No NDAs exist either; a FOIA request confirmed it.

None of that is a secret, and it wasn’t a secret to Trustee Chris Ropeta or his wife, Janette Ropeta, who posted the clip. They knew there was no data center, no application, and a moratorium on the books — and manufactured the outrage anyway. The reward was views. The cost was borne by their fellow officials and neighbors, who spent the following days buried in the threats archived below.

Words Have Consequences

This was not a one-time lapse in judgment. Janette Ropeta has a long history of stirring up conflict in Tyrone Township — showing up to agitate, recording confrontations, and pushing narratives that do not survive contact with the public record. This time the narrative was “secret NDAs” and a data center that does not exist, has no application, and sits behind a standing moratorium.

It is tempting to treat this as harmless internet noise. The messages archived on this page prove otherwise. When someone with a platform broadcasts a conspiracy theory to thousands of strangers, real people act on it. Township officials — and their families — were told they would be hunted down at their homes, that they should “choke to death,” that someone hoped to see them “gutted like pigs.” Those are not policy disagreements. They are threats of violence, and they landed on the desks of neighbors whose only offense was doing their jobs.

Manufactured outrage is not free speech without a cost. It has a body count waiting to happen. The people who invent these stories should own what follows from them.
